The Story Part 10 Numbers

Mar 8, 2026    Pastor James

In one of the most sobering and beautiful moments in Israel’s wilderness journey, Numbers 20 shows us a faithful leader pushed to the edge, a people repeating the sins of their parents, and a God who responds with abundant grace.

As Israel returns to Kadesh—the very doorway to the Promised Land—old patterns re-emerge. The people complain. Moses grows weary. Anger and fatigue collide. And in a moment of frustration, Moses strikes the rock instead of speaking to it as God commanded.

Yet even in the middle of rebellion, blame, and failure, water gushes out. God provides abundantly for a people who did not deserve it.

In this message, we explore:

- Why Moses’ actions were so serious

- How anger and exhaustion can distort even the strongest leaders

- What biblical leadership looks like when people oppose you

- How Christ is the true Rock who was struck for us

- The surprising way God still shows grace to Moses

- Why God’s mercy is greater than our failures

If you’ve ever felt worn down, misunderstood, or stuck in a cycle of wandering, this passage speaks directly to you. God’s grace meets us not at our best—but right in the middle of our weakness.

“We serve a God who does not give us what we deserve.”

His mercies are new every morning. His grace is abundant. And He invites us to come home.
